Lessons in Motherhood

Let me digress from oohing and aahing over my adorable children for one minute to tell you about something that I have never experienced until now…status travel. Yes, my friends, there is a better way to travel and it’s called having “status.” Of course, I have no “status,” but Luke does. In fact he’s a Gold Medallion member on Delta and a Gold Whatever it is with Marriott. What does that mean?!!?!? Well, it means that when you travel, you get certain “perks.” I had no idea what that really meant, but taking two trips with him back to back has really opened my eyes to what I’ve been missing…

1. He ALWAYS skips the line…whether at the check-in desk, security, or boarding the plane. There’s not much waiting when you’re “Gold.”
2. He gets upgraded to first class AT NO COST!!!! What?!?!?! Yeah…you heard me…free drinks and more leg room for no extra fee!
3. His bags fly free. Yeah, Southwest…eat that. His bags fly free (and it’s only taken him like 4,000 trips to earn that right).
4. Not only does he cut the line, but his bags cut the line too. They get a yellow priority tag. I don’t know that means, but I’m guessing that it’s pretty obnoxious. They’re all in the cargo hold of the plane sitting on their cushy beds with silk sheets laughing at all of the other bags down in steerage. Then, they get off the plane first and ride in their private limos to the baggage carousel.
5. Free drink tickets…need I say more?
6. Free nights at the Marriott and free upgrades, which means that we can go from a one-bedroom suite to a two-bedroom suite at no cost.  Translation – Mommy doesn’t have to sleep in the same room with the girls.  Translation – Happy Mommy.

Bottom line – I’m totally spoiled from traveling with Luke.  I don’t know how I’ll ever go back to being a regular traveler again now that I’ve tasted the sweet nectar of travel royalty.  Maybe Hailey will follow through on her wish to be pilot.  Think of the perks for me then!
