Another Mommy Blog
When we got home from school today, there were a few minutes of daylight left so I let the girls go outside to play. I like to watch them out the window, and they were so happy that I snapped this picture of Hailey pushing Sophia on the swing.
I was so pleased that I thanked my lucky stars for this amazing house and our great backyard. A few minutes later I almost burned the whole damn house down. No really. I almost burned the kitchen up in a moment of complete stupidity. I was so distracted by the moment of zen I was having watching the girls that instead of putting 2.75 cups of water in the rice, I only put 2/3rds of a cup of water in. Then, I set the microwave for 25 minutes and went outside to play with the girls. When we came back in, I smelled it right away. It was bad. Really really bad. I took this picture only after the pot sat outside for over an hour, and the house still smelled.
Oh well, we’ll recover (hopefully, the microwave won’t smell forever). Actually, will the microwave smell forever? I hope not.
Even with all of that drama, I got a good laugh from Sophia tonight. When I put her into bed, she explained to me what I needed to go do. “Mommy, you can go and work on your iPad and watch football and call Daddy.” What? It was just so funny to hear her interpretation of what I do after she goes to bed.

Well, you can throw THAT bowl away. I honestly can’t blame you for taking a moment out of your always incredibly busy day to just enjoy the sight of your girls playing together (with Josie waiting for someone to kick the ball, of course). So, next time you’ll be more careful! Sophia’s comment was priceless! I mean, that is certainly what she believes goes on after her bedtime. How could she possibly know that it is hockey season?

Alisa,
I had a close call, too, this past weekend. I put a cookie sheet of chips with nacho cheese in the oven on the top rack (on broil). I didn’t anticipate how quickly I would make cheese-fire! Well, Jack opened the window and I threw smoking hot pan right out the window onto the grass. Plenty of air purifier and open windows brought the place back to smelling OK in a couple of days. The greatest thing of all is self cleaning ovens!
